I may sound bias with my frank opinions as a rakyat in democratic Malaysia but there are some decisions by Government leaders which warrants a pat in the back as this;
Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said Sunday asked the federal government to hand over to the state government the management of the latter's oil royalty which amounts to nearly RM1 billion a year ~ Bernama April 20, 2008
The money rightfully belongs to the people of Terengganu which is the most appropriate way of allowing their appointed State representatives to spend the monies in the manner which would benefit the people. Since 1999, the Federal Government had bypassed the State Government (yes, had even bypassed Idris Jusoh) in spending the money they called "wang ehsan" through agencies e.g. Ketengah (Central Terengganu Development Authority), PERMINT and this could facilitate corruptions. Where's the accountability of the RM1billion spent annually since since 1999 which should total at a staggering RM10billion by now!
Despite the royalties due to the state, the truth is, Terengganu remains one of the poorest state in Malaysia and where could all the money be spent on?????
Crystal Mosque? Taman Tamadun Islam? New stadium? Airport expansion? Highway in the jungle? Resorts in Lake Kenyir (managed by Nikaniaga Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd now)? Lake Kenyir Dam? And not forgetting the Teluk Warisan and Monsoon Cup project which benefitted the elite more then the rakyat.
In every Malaysian interest especially the people of Terengganu, the Federal Government owe them a detailed report of how the monies had been spent as accountability should be transparent for the rakyat to vouch the credibility of the Dato', Datuks, Tan Sri and Tun whom had "helped" to spend the monies.
