Sibu Miracle - post mortem!

Sibu Miracle!

The people of Sibu or Sibuans have delivered their verdict amidst higher voter turnout and the swing to DAP-Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

With Rejang Park considered the "black area" for Barisan Nasional (BN), the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and supremo for BN only chose the last day to visit whilst delivering his momentous speech which all Malaysians will remember of "You help me and I help you!".

The sentence itself is a flaw and unbecoming for a Prime Minister of a Islamic country to utter such. I guess many Malaysians was momentarily shocked and stunned over the statement made while delivering his plea to the Rejang Park folks to vote for BN.

With majority Chinese population there, it can be said that they had simply duplicated the "winning formula" of the recent Hulu Selangor by-election while hoping that the rakyat monies he showered would deliver the same result.

He had forgotten that most Chinese (not about racial) votes based on careful analysis and calculated decisions which is not easily swinged by such promises. That statement alone had placed him in a bad light among the Chinese community there which had an effect on voters from the other races of Sibu.

Jibby was lucky he quoted that on the final lap of campaigning and transmission of that event could not be disseminated into the other areas quickly. Had he done that earlier on, BN could have lost with a much bigger margin but the damage is done!

Jibby was so caught up with his one up over his deputy over the Hulu Selangor victory and wanted to proof that it was no fluke. What happens? His Deputy had the last laugh and would certainly thinkif Jibby is the people's PM?

With the "loudspeaker" of Perkasa harping on MCA's inability to secure the Chinese votes, he failed to realise that he was a major contributor to this phenomena and the question should be should he shut his mouth to help BN?

In this instance, Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek was absolutely right in this assessments about Perkasa and the sentiments of the Chinese community in Malaysia. It's not about racial but uniting the people regardless of race and compete in togetherness on the international platform as 1 Malaysia.

There is no if(s) or but(s) in today's borderless world where the fittest will survive which also applies to Malaysia to sustain and grow into a developed status nation which all Malaysians can be proud of.

Instead, Perkasa has taken the Malays back into the 60s and 70s with their racial rhetorics. Very soon he would lead the Malays into communal villages or housing estates as before which truly hinders the 1 Malaysia challenge.

While this augurs well for the PR and a motivator for the up-coming State elections, PR should place this as an indicator and work harder to ensure victory in the state now that the Chief Minister of Sarawak have been a liability for the people of Sarawak where his presence was not welcomed in Sibu.

As the story goes on, a promise is a promise .... the PM has to deliver the RM5million of taxpayers monies to Rejang Park for flood alleviation projects today (Wednesday, 19th May 2010). Why use taxpayers money when the campaigning was supposed to be a political party affair Jibby?

Will Jibby go against his promise? If this happens, the outcome of the State elections would prove disastrous for BN.

I for certain against Jibby using taxpayers money to meet the RM5million!
