Penanti.......

N12: PENANTI : 15,384
1. Mansor Othman (PKR) 6,052 votes
2. Aminah Abdullah (Independent) 392 votes
3. Nai Khan Ari a/l Nai Keow (Independent) 494 votes
4. Kamarul Ramizu Idris (Independent) 56 votes

Total voters : 7,100

Percentage voter turnout : 46.15%

Spoilt votes : 106 votes

Majority : 5,558 votes

Incumbent : Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin (PKR)

Majority : 2,219 votes

The Penanti by-election verdict is out and creates a record of all sorts;

  1. a first for BN on the decision not to compete in the by-election,
  2. Lowest turnout i.e. 46%,
  3. Even with a lower voter turnout, a higher majority was secured as compared to the previous General Election and
  4. Less chaos and police presence required. (savings for the public funds)

DPM’s statement that the low turnout shows UMNO still have influence over the Penanti constituency with claims that they had influenced the Malays to refrain from voting may not hold weight.

However, the reasons remain subjective but as to the reason, I chose to think that;

  1. the low turnout was to save BN from a bigger shame as the voters in the constituency all know that PKR would win hands down given the token resistance from the Independent candidates especially a particular “Aminah”,
  2. with the above thoughts, voters working outside Penanti would also have decided not to make that extra trip back to vote and
  3. making the trip back to vote would be at their own expense as BN would not be around to subsidize their travel allowance.

Onwards to Manik Urai, Kelantan, it would be a battle between PAS (PR) and UMNO (BN) again and this would further provide an indication if the public perception of the BN Government had changed.

It is unlikely that it would change much and could result in a bigger disappointment for BN judging from Najib’s 100 days in power which shows nothing to shout about except for the seditious arrests, increasing crime rate, building collapse, PKFZ, not forgetting Altantuya remained a shadow of doubt cast upon Najib’s capability.

PKFZ in Parliament!

15th June 2009, the second session of the Malaysian Parliament seating starts and PKFZ is on every MPs lips. The "blame game" within the ruling coalition has started and so is the "cover-up" plans. This issue would be brought up and few MPs involved would be seating on a pit-fire in the House.

Opposition MPs would definitely "grill" the relevant Minister and the present ruling MPs will find out if their peers are supportive of their misadventure. Within the Government, they are aware that this is a high profile" scam" but would have to protect their integrity at all cost.

Had the Government then practice due diligence and professionalism during the awarding of this project, millions of public funds would have been saved and place for better use with the present economic recession is a good example.

PKFZ scandal have every element of CBT, corruption, cronyism, nepotism etc. built into it. Whatever the situation is, the Price Waterhouse Coopers investigation report has placed a damning effect on the integrity of the Government and MPs associated.

It does not contribute much to the efforts in redeeming of the fast fading public perception of BN after the last General Election. While BN is still licking their wounds, not much progress and development to turnaround the economic situation had Malaysians worry.

The inability to tackle the retrenchment and lack of job opportunities during these trying times had contributed much to the socio-economic problems of increasing crime rate all over the country. The stimulus package announced for the only ones to be triggered by the Government which have yet to see the impact on the road to economic recovery.

When the shortcomings of the ruling BN Government are being highlighted by the Opposition MPs, this caused red faces among the leaders which leads to them scurrying for cover where many would admit that the BN MPs are no match to their counterparts in terms of technicality and intellectual.

The road to economic good times looks bleak for now but with the quality of leaders in the Government, Malaysians would have made their mind if these bunch of Ministers can really pull Malaysia out of the economic doldrums affecting worldwide.

With the predicted dryand hazy season set to dry up the water and ground, it would certainly be another type of El Nino for the Government leaders when the Parliament seating starts next week.

Point to note: It is good to note that some of our Opposition MPs (not naming who) are highly respected in Parliament for their facts, principles and always looking out for statistics instead of some BN MPs who are perhaps more interested in securing contracts.

PFKZ WASTE OF TIME?????

Debate on PKFZ waste of time, Tee Keat tells Kit Siang

Dear OTK,

When it involves MYMONEY (as well as other Malaysians), we want to get to the bottom of this WASTE OF MONEY.

If there was proper management and business transaction conduct, we would not have wasted time and effort in investigating this PKFZ!

Who have really started the waste of time and money rolling???????????

You BN people!!!!

So shut up and better for your Ministry to bring the relevant corrupted individuals to Court to save the ailing fortunes of the BN Government!

This is 1Malaysia anyway which all Malaysians (including this fella) are still confused as to what this is all about.
