"Eye On Malaysia" off to a great start in Melaka but the watchful eyes of Malaysians are trained on the controversial missing (since July 2008) "Private Eye" Bala, a witness sought by the defence in the Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu murder trial with the other witness being Raja Petra Kamaruddin (RPK).
It would be of great relevance in the eyes of the world that justice be brought to the murderer(s) of the Mongolian beauty and it has been two years now since the incident with no end yet but only the acquittal of Abdul Razak Baginda. This particular case is not over yet and many Malaysians felt that it was a case of "tentative charge but all is not lost" situation then.
The Mongolian Government is seeking to increase international attention on this high profile heinous crime through international courts here.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian judiciary in under surveillance to restore integrity after the much said corruption and Government influence into court decisions. The 7th November decision by Justice Syed Ahmad Helmy Syed Ahmad held that the Home Minister had acted outside his powers and allowing the habeas corpus application for Raja Petra – who had been detained under the ISA for 56 days was the initial indication of justice restored. Malaysians are not shouting with joy yet as the Government are appealing to turnaorund this court decision which reinstate the perceptions of majority Malaysians that the courts in this country are influenced by the Government.
The following day, another "test case" for the Malaysian judiciary system's integrity is restored when the High Court rejected on Wednesday the prosecution’s application to transfer Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial to a higher court.
RM10.5 million for six former judges was declared by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abd Aziz (he does not know what he is talking most of the time though) but the question remained were they sack or early retirement.
Also, a peaceful "No to ISA" candlelight vigil on 09 November 2008 and singing of the national anthem, Negara Ku, being abruptly interrupted by the police where some participants were arrested and physically abused by the police though they came out in MSM claiming "minimal force" were applied.
Where would our eyes be focused on now that the Malaysian Government (including it's leaders) had been under the microscope for more than a year without much difference and with UMNO internal money politics still at it's pinnacle in the run up to the party elections in March '09. It's a situation of "No money, no support" within UMNO and same principle applies when they are in Government positions.
Despite the going-ons in Malaysia, the change of Government in the Maldives arising from the Presidential election where people power came into play in electing 41 year old Mohamed Nasheed while in the US, Barrack Obama was president elect and representing the first African-American to seat in the White House. During these interesting and inspiring peoples choice of leaders, out-going Malaysian PM declared "Anyone can be PM"!!!! Not forgetting that Dr M had said this before and he received "bollocks" from his then fellow UMNO members.
Is this a possibility? Not any chance if UMNO and its goonies are still after money. money, money. We would be better watching Mamma Mia!
